Born Soul kicks off the new year with a new EP, “Vybe King.” “Vybe King” is Born Soul’s first EP. The six-track masterpiece is chock full of sounds and puts a unique spin on the Hip-Hop/Rap genre. Born Soul is exactly what the title of his EP suggests – he is a king of vibes. The EP takes listeners on a sonic journey, and each song has its own distinct vibe. “Every moment on Earth is vibe driven.” Born Soul continues: “Surround yourself with like-minded individuals. This EP serves as an advisory piece, emphasizing the idea that one is the ruler of their own space – have a life plan and stay goal driven.”

“Vybe King” starts off with “The Wind.” “The Wind” has a spooky sound to it, and Born Soul spits witty, hard-hitting bars. He has a Lil Yachty reminiscent flow on the track. “Trailblaze” is up next. Trailblaze” is a Rap track with a Trap sound to it that is reminiscent of a Three 6 Mafia vibe. Track three, “Caesar,” showcases Born Soul’s lyrical prowess, and how he is not only the king of vibes, but also the king of Hip-Hop. “Ideas” keeps with the Hip-Hop vibe. It is a motivational, Conscious Hip-Hop/Rap song that has a wavy beat. The penultimate record, “Sphere of Love,” has a funky, Soul vibe. “Adagio Fountain” is the closer. The song rounds out the EP well, and has a chill, emotive feel to it. “Adagio Fountain” has an OutKast vibe, and Born Soul bares his soul on the record.

“Vybe King” is an impressive body of work that has tracks for listeners that like Hip-Hop/Rap and its various subgenres. Born Soul puts forth a project laced with powerful, metaphoric, and hyphy lyrics that resonate with all who listen. Vibe out to Born Soul’s “Vybe King” and catch a vibe.

While more of a behind-the-scenes player DJ Design’s (aka Keith Griego) work has had a sizable imprint on the history of modern hip-hop. As a DJ/Beatmaker and visual artist he has contributed production and art since the late 90’s for notables including The Beastie Boys, Madlib, A.G., Foreign Legion, Rasco, Peanut Butter Wolf and Phat Kat

As a visual artist, his high point of work with the label was his design of the 12” vinyl cover for Lootpack member Madlib’s side project Quasimoto. The cover for “Microphone Mathematics” featured Design/Griego’s visual representation of Lord Quas as a sort of alien aardvark, which was adopted by the artist and has since become one of the most iconic and enduring

characters in the game today.
