Dave Curl Embraces Authenticity in New Single ‘Don’t Talk Anymore’

The wait is over for fans of Dave Curl, the Australian-Swiss singer-songwriter whose blend of folk, pop, and rock has been captivating audiences worldwide. He is back with ‘Don’t Talk Anymore’, via Running Wild Records, a track that marks another significant step in his prolific career, one that continues to embody his motto for 2024: “carpe diem.”
Dave Curl’s music is a soulful mix of folk, pop, and rock, with an alternative edge that sets it apart. Drawing influences from the giants of the 80s and 90s like Sting, Eurythmics, and Bryan Adams, as well as contemporary artists such as Ed Sheeran, John Mayer, and Jack Johnson, Dave’s sound is both nostalgic and fresh. His exceptional songwriting abilities and authentic style have led to comparisons with artists like Milow and Bono, while his irreverent, anti-establishment vibe resonates with fans of Nick Cave and Lou Reed.
‘Don’t Talk Anymore’ is a powerful rock anthem that captures the zeitgeist of our tech-saturated era. The track kicks off with a glitchy introduction, bluesy guitar riffs, and an edgy bass line, all supported by a syncopated drum groove.
Dave Curl’s inspiration for ‘Don’t Talk Anymore’ came from a train journey through the Italian part of Switzerland. Expecting lively chatter, he was instead met with eerie silence as passengers were glued to their screens. This moment of realization sparked the creation of the song, which serves as an ironic reminder of the importance of meaningful communication in an increasingly virtual world.
“‘Don’t Talk Anymore’ captures the modern epidemic of disconnection, as people immerse themselves in smartphones rather than meaningful conversation. Inspired by a train journey through the Italian part of Switzerland, I was struck by the eerie silence of fellow passengers glued to their screens. Expecting lively chatter, I instead found an irritating scene of silence. This moment sparked the idea of ‘Don’t Talk Anymore’. The song serves as an ironic reminder of the importance of meaningful communication in an increasingly virtual world.” – Dave Curl

Dead Tooth Drops New Single ‘You Never Do Shit’

In “You Never Do Shit,” Brooklyn’s Dead Tooth deliver a snarling, urgent post-punk single that distills their barbed energy into under four minutes of sharp-tongued wit and scuffed-up sonics. It’s a track that bristles with disdain—Zach Ellis’ vocal delivery is acidic, at times theatrical, and often more spoken than sung. There’s a punk rock immediacy here, but with the knowing wink of someone who’s watched the scene curdle and still wants to dance through the ashes.
The song began its life in a different medium—written for a fictional band on City on Fire—but the real-life iteration carries more weight. There’s a palpable satisfaction in Ellis’ decision to reclaim it, and that freedom seeps into every detail: the unkempt rhythm section, the jarring saxophone lines from John Stanesco, and the deliberate looseness that characterizes its structure.
Dead Tooth are at once participants and commentators in the culture they inhabit. Their songs are alive with noise, but also with intent—tracking the psychic hangover of nightlife, subcultural collapse, and underground scenes that burn bright and disappear too soon. Ellis’ lyrical observations land like tossed-off critiques, but underneath the smirk is something deeper, almost desperate: a desire for connection, even through chaos.
With their debut album looming, “You Never Do Shit” feels like a thesis statement. Not just of sound, but of ethos: reject slickness, embrace noise, tell the truth—even if it’s ugly. In a year when punk has mostly whispered or wandered, Dead Tooth has chosen to scream.
