Lamar Jackson Is Back: Ravens Star Returns Sunday at Buffalo After Three Games Out

The Baltimore Ravens get their franchise quarterback back on Sunday. Lamar Jackson will start at Buffalo against the Bills after missing three games with a high left ankle sprain, head coach Jesse Minter confirmed on Friday.

Jackson practiced in full on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and carries no game status designation into the weekend. The two-time NFL Most Valuable Player was hurt in the second quarter of Baltimore’s win over the Tennessee Titans on October 4 and had not practiced fully since.

“I feel like I’m no longer a statue,” Jackson said after Friday’s practice. “I’m able to move around a little better. I can give it a shot.” He called the pain in the ankle “bearable” and said the sense of urgency around the team is “extremely high.”

The Ravens felt his absence. Baltimore went 1-2 with backup Tyler Huntley starting, including back-to-back losses to division rivals Cleveland and Cincinnati in which the offense failed to score a single second-half point. The Ravens averaged 29 points per game in Jackson’s four starts this season, and that number fell to 17.7 points per game without him. In those four starts, Jackson completed 70.8 percent of his passes for 967 yards with six touchdowns and one interception.

Baltimore (4-3) sits in last place in the AFC North and now walks into one of the hardest road tests in football. The Bills (5-1) lead the AFC East, and Buffalo has beaten the Ravens three straight times at Highmark Stadium. Jackson will also be without two teammates on Sunday, as starting right guard Vega Ioane and safety Jaylinn Hawkins were ruled out on the final injury report.

Kickoff is 1:00 PM ET on Sunday at Highmark Stadium. For a Ravens team that has spent three weeks waiting on its leader, there is no easing back in. The season turns on games like this one, and their quarterback is finally back under center.

NFC West in Week 8: 49ers Lead Big, Rams Host the Winless Chargers at SoFi Stadium

The NFC West has a clear boss and a long weekend for everybody chasing them. San Francisco watches Week 8 from the couch with the division’s biggest lead.

The standings: San Francisco 49ers 6-1, Seattle Seahawks 4-3, Los Angeles Rams 3-4, Arizona Cardinals 2-5.

The 49ers, two games clear of Seattle, have the week off after taking their first loss of the season at Atlanta. Nobody in the division can touch them this weekend, so the race is for second place and wild card position.

The Rams host the Chargers at SoFi Stadium at 4:05 PM ET, the first regular season meeting between the two Los Angeles teams in their shared building since New Year’s Day 2023. The Rams (3-4) lead the NFL in total yards, and quarterback Matthew Stafford leads all passers with 1,989 yards. The Chargers (0-6) are the league’s last winless team, with the fewest points scored in football and the most turnovers, 15 of them. The Rams get back to .500 with a win, and Sean McVay’s team has spent all week saying it will not overlook a desperate opponent.

Arizona (2-5) visits the Dallas Cowboys (3-4) at 1:00 PM ET, and Seattle (4-3) closes the week on Monday night at home against the Chicago Bears (8:15 PM ET), a game with real wild card weight for both conferences.

San Francisco is in control. Week 8 decides who gets to call themselves the challenger.
