Omar Juarez Vows to Break Emiliano Vargas Down in December 5 Benavidez vs. Cieslak Undercard Clash
Omar Juarez gets the biggest stage of his career on December 5 in Glendale, fighting unbeaten Emiliano Vargas on the Benavidez vs. Cieslak pay-per-view undercard, and the Brownsville contender says a win puts him in line for a world title shot. In training camp quotes from Las Vegas, Juarez breaks down the matchup, his move to trainer Bob Santos, and what he learned from his early losses.
Super Lightweight Contender Omar Juarez Battles Unbeaten Phenom Emiliano Vargas Saturday, December 5 in Benavidez vs. Cieslak Undercard Bout on PBC Pay-Per-View Event Available on DAZN through Prime Video from Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona
All-action super lightweight contender Omar “El Relampago” Juarez plans to give fans a show and take his opponent into “deep water” when he faces unbeaten phenom Emiliano “El General” Vargas in a 10-round attraction featured on a PBC Pay-Per-View event available on DAZN through Prime Video Saturday, December 5 from Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
The bout is part of a loaded five-fight pay-per-view lineup headlined by undefeated Mexican superstar and unified WBA and WBO Cruiserweight World Champion David “El Monstro” Benavidez in a high-stakes unification clash against WBC Cruiserweight World Champion Michal Cieslak.
Tickets for the live event are on sale now and available through Ticketmaster.com.
The 27-year-old Juarez (21-2, 8 KOs) made a name for himself with an exciting style that he brings to the ring time and time again and is currently riding a seven-fight winning streak that dates back to 2024. Now under the helm of top trainer Bob Santos, Juarez’s current run includes an impressive four-win 2025 that featured a dominant decision over Omar Rosario. A native of Brownsville, Texas, Juarez has achieved recognition in his community by uplifting the state’s youth through motivational speaking, receiving commendations from the Texas State Senate and the Texas House of Representatives for his altruism.
Here is what Juarez had to say about facing Vargas, training camp in Las Vegas and more:
On what kind of fight fans can expect and what a win does for his career:
“It’s gonna be an exciting fight. Both of us are in there to prove something. I’m coming to hurt him and I’m coming to win. I have no doubt in my mind that I’m gonna win. I think he’s overlooking me and underestimating me. He thinks I’m a typical Mexican pressure fighter. But the fans are gonna see me break Vargas down and take him to deep water.
“This is a great win to have on my resume and get me closer to a world title shot. My team is managing my career perfectly, so I know that winning this will get me a big opportunity next.”
On his assessment of Emiliano Vargas:
“He sparred my brother, but that was many years ago. From what I’ve seen, he’s a fighter who reacts. He’s a fast-twitch type of guy. He reacts off of your reaction. But the guys he’s fought are very flat-footed. They’re telegraphing everything and you can see what they’re gonna do. He’s gonna try to do that with me, but I’m gonna be two or three steps ahead of him. Vargas hasn’t fought anybody who’s gonna take it to him like I will. It’s gonna be exciting once he sees that I’m not a normal fighter.”
On tapping Bob Santos as his lead trainer:
“Bob has been my manager since the beginning of my career, but has also been my little brother Sebastian’s trainer from his pro debut. That’s where I started to see that there are levels to this when it comes to guidance from the corner. When it came down to my tougher fights, I realized I needed to get better. I’m a hard worker, but I also realized with Bob that I needed to work intelligently. I was doing a lot wrong. The change was the best thing I could have done for my career.
“I don’t think that he added anything, but he gave me more peace of mind that I’m a really good fighter who can adapt to anything. I’ve been flowing in these sparring sessions with big name fighters. I had been stressing in my head too much in my past fights and wasn’t letting my movement be fluid. When I watch those fights I realize that I was too far into my own head. Bob helped me re-wire my brain so that I can say that I know who I am, I just have to go out and perform.”
On what he learned from losses earlier in his career:
“When you get signed and you’re winning, there’s obviously a big crowd around you hyping you up. It’s the same story that every fighter goes through, and I went through it. People started doubting me and stopped believing in me. That kind of showed me who’s really with me. But the losses never bothered me. I’m doing this for myself and my family. I’m a competitor. I look for the grind. Sacrificing my time out here in Las Vegas is gonna pay off in the end.”
On what it means to fight on a David Benavidez undercard:
“This is a stacked card and it’s the perfect opportunity to shine and get this win, because everybody is gonna be tuning in. The card from top to bottom is filled with a bunch of hungry lions. We’re all coming to steal the show.”
On his message to his fans in Brownsville, Texas:
“They’ve always supported me since the beginning of my career and I represent them everywhere I go. I represent the special needs community everywhere I go as well and every time I step into the ring. We’re gonna go and get this win together.”

Miyo Yoshida Chases a Fourth World Title Against WBC Champion Skye Nicolson in Arlington
Miyo Yoshida’s road to this moment was never the traditional one, and that is exactly the point. The 38-year-old three-time, two-division world champion from Japan steps in against defending WBC Super Bantamweight World Champion Skye Nicolson in Arlington, Texas, with a win putting her in a club of only three four-time women’s world champions from Japan — and adding a third division to her title history.
Multiple World Champion Miyo Yoshida (19-5, 1 KO) can join an exclusive club this Sunday night, if she defeats defending World Boxing Council (WBC) Super Bantamweight World Champion Skye Nicolson in a ten-round title fight on “MVP 07,” airing live on ESPN from Arlington, Texas.
The 38-year-old Yoshida is among only 23 female world champions from Japan and only the sixth to hold world titles in multiple divisions. Yoshida is a 3-time, 2-division world champion who has held the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Super Flyweight crown twice, as well as the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Bantamweight World title belt.
If she defeats Nicolson, who fights out of Australia, Yoshida will join Etsudo Tada (20-4-2, 7 KOs), and Yuko Kuroki (25-9-2, 10 KOs) as 4-time women’s world champions from Japan. The great Naoko Fujioka (19-3-1, 7 KOs) is the all-time Japanese female leader with 5 world titles.
“Naoko Fujioka is an incredible champion who made history in Japanese women’s boxing,” Yoshida said. “Becoming a 3-division world champion to add my name to that history would be tremendous. It’s not for me to decide where I rank all-time or what position I hold in Japanese women’s history.
“I moved to Hawaii when I was 20 and began my fighting career in MMA and kickboxing. I switched to boxing at 26, gave birth at 27, and without any amateur boxing experience, I fully returned to the sport after becoming a mother and went on to become a world champion. Later, I moved to New York City with my daughter and won another world title in the United States. I recognize my career has been pretty unconventional and that’s why I didn’t need to follow the same path as anyone else. I didn’t take the traditional path because I’ve always been something of an outsider.”
Yoshida, known as the “Fighting Single Mother” in Japan, is a respected role model and recipient of Ring Magazine’s 2023 Most Inspirational Female Fighter award.
“A victory would make Miyo a 4-time world champion across three weight divisions, an achievement that would strengthen her place among Japan’s greatest female fighters,” Yoshida’s manager Keith Sullivan added. “Winning world titles from super flyweight through super bantamweight speaks to her skill, adaptability and extraordinary determination. For Miyo, this is a chance to turn an already remarkable career into a lasting legacy and show her daughter, and young women everywhere, how far courage and perseverance can take you.”
A former New York State Athletic Commission Deputy Commissioner, Sullivan also manages undefeated Brooklyn heavyweight prospect Pryce Taylor (13-0, 8 KOs), Albanian heavyweight Kristian Prenga (21-2, 21 KOs), Serbian heavyweight Sanel Hasanovic (11-1-1, 9 KOs), undefeated Staten Island light heavyweight prospect Arjan Iseni (6-0, 5 KOs), Bronx NYPD officer Nisa Rodriguez (4-1, 2 KOs), lightweight Fei Faiva (6-0-1, 4 KOs) and junior featherweight prospect Brooklyn “The Big Deal” Barwick (5-1, 5 KOs). Sullivan also co-manages IBF Welterweight World title challenger Paddy “The Real Deal” Donovan (16-2, 12 KOs) and his cousin, middleweight Jim Donovan (2-0, 1 KO), alongside coach and ex-world champion Andy Lee.
