Saba Lou has shared Part Of Me, the latest single from Nothing But Love, her third album, due November 20 on Ernest Jenning Record Co. Written about her brother and a period when he was in an unsafe situation, the song follows the earlier singles Nothing But Love and She and marks the Berlin artist’s return after stepping away to study biochemistry.

Today Saba Lou is excited to share “Part Of Me,” the latest single to be released from her album Nothing But Love out November 20 via Ernest Jenning Record Co. Written about her beloved brother and a period when he was in an unsafe situation, the track captures the range of emotions surrounding the experience. Following previous singles “Nothing But Love” and “She,” “Part Of Me” is out now on all streaming platforms.

Saba Lou began her recording career at the age of 6 with a 4-song 7″ followed two years later by “Good Habits (and Bad)”, which was serendipitously used for the end credits on Cartoon Network’s “Clarence.” She recorded her debut album Planet Enigma at the age of fifteen and her second album Novum Ovum while still a teenager in 2018.

Saba Lou is still based in Berlin but nearly everything else has changed as she prepares to release her third LP, Nothing But Love. After the last record she stepped away and studied biochemistry for a while, the fruits of which are the first two songs on her upcoming album (odes to personified hydrogen electrodes and UV light!). Split into two sides with different themes and feels, Nothing But Love is a story of growing up, moving forward and learning how to live. The A side tracks her musical transition forward and was written slowly over the course of four years, reflecting on a new relationship, the pandemic and experiences at university.

The B side brings us into the present, a departure from the anger of youth and a reflection on her growing openness to her “inner feeling world”. It’s centered on the album’s title track, the first song written consciously about her spiritual path, “about first glimpses of liberation from tiny, restrictive body-consciousness”. The path is overwhelming at times, giving rise to a gentler touch before the album closing resolution of “Devoted.” Saba Lou explains, “after ingesting a lot of heady and heavy philosophy there came forth this a perfect little pearl. Not the usual me writing about a different topic, but a new me, writing.”

After intensive focus on improving her mental health over the first half of this year Saba Lou is reentering the world with her latest LP and a renewed sense of purpose and understanding of what it is she is here to do. She gained her first acting experience and will appear in European cinemas this November in Randa Chahoud’s film adaptation of Mithu Sanyal’s acclaimed novel ‘Identitti’. She also recently co-founded new band ‘The Khan Sisters’ with her siblings Bella Bizarre and Omri Gondor, in which she plays bass and sings. Their first album is currently in the works.

At the present moment, Saba Lou is also steadily, slowly, in the process of renovating her apartment where she lives with her partner, best friend and collaborator.

Darren Jessee Returns With Wistful New Single “Shoulder Season”

Darren Jessee has been the drummer behind Ben Folds Five and the songwriter behind Hotel Lights, and his new single sounds like a man deciding not to put the pen down. “Shoulder Season,” recorded by Bonny Light Horseman’s Josh Kaufman, previews a forthcoming solo album due in 2027.

North Carolina-based singer-songwriter Darren Jessee (Ben Folds Five, Hotel Lights) is proud to present “Shoulder Season,” the acclaimed multi-instrumentalist’s brand new single lifted from his forthcoming solo album that will see a 2027 release. Recorded by GRAMMY-winning musician and producer Josh Kaufman of Bonny Light Horseman and mixed by Peter Katis (The National, Kurt Vile), “Shoulder Season” traces the paths people chart in and around our lives over the years. The track also invites close listening, which in turn draws attention to Jessee’s evocative lyrics as well as the nuanced instrumental performances he and Kaufman captured on tape. “‘Shoulder Season’ … I liked the words by themselves,” Jessee says. “They suggest perseverance and resilience during a season of time. The term shoulder season means a transitional time of year.” Watch the music video for “Shoulder Season” on YouTube.

Darren Jessee was in a period of personal upheaval. His mother had recently passed away after a short illness. He was also touring as a drummer for the Americana act Chatham County Line, a gig that he enjoyed but one that kept him from performing much as a solo artist. And then his label rep at Bar/None, home of Jessee’s last seven albums, retired. In the wake of it all, Jessee found himself wondering if it was perhaps time to set aside the burden of managing a songwriting career and simply lean into his work as a drummer. “But then I just kept finding these songs and enjoying them,” he says of his forthcoming solo showcase that symbolizes a new beginning for the veteran musician — an organic, hushed and transcendent sound very much inspired by the blizzard that the album was recorded in.

Stay tuned for more music and information on Darren Jessee’s forthcoming solo album to be announced in the coming weeks. Jessee will be making the following appearances in November:

November 12 — Wake Forest, NC — Wake Forest Listening Room

November 18 — Greensboro, NC — Flat Iron (with Natalie Jane Hill)
