Timberwolves Star Anthony Edwards to Undergo Knee Surgery, Expected to Miss About Two Months

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee on Thursday and is expected to miss about two months, team president of basketball operations Tim Connelly confirmed on Wednesday.

Connelly said the injury is not a meniscus tear and that Edwards will be “good as new” after the procedure, which the team decided to schedule quickly after new imaging of the knee showed a change from earlier scans. “He wants to play tonight,” Connelly said Wednesday. “We’re just concerned about his long-term health. We want to make sure we’re putting him in the best position he can be so he can be the best version he’s going to be for a long time.”

Edwards, 25, has carried Minnesota through the opening week, averaging 33.3 points and 4.8 rebounds in four games. He played 41 minutes and scored 47 points in Monday’s overtime loss in Cleveland despite being listed as questionable with the knee problem, his second 45-point game in the Timberwolves’ first four games — a feat only three other players in NBA history have matched.

Edwards first complained of discomfort in the knee after the season opener in Miami and was examined on Tuesday after playing three more games. He dealt with runner’s knee in the same leg last season and missed 21 games, the most of his career.

The Timberwolves played their first game without Edwards on Wednesday night, losing 119-114 to the Golden State Warriors in Minneapolis. His manager, Justin Holland, said Edwards’ focus remains on winning a championship rather than the individual honors his absence could put out of reach.

New Orleans Pelicans guard Jeremiah Fears dribbles around Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic during the first half on Oct. 28, 2026 at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans

Nikola Jokic had 21 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists for the 200th regular-season triple-double of his career, and the Denver Nuggets never trailed in a 104-91 victory over the winless New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night at Smoothie King Center.

Jokic became the second player in NBA history to reach 200 triple-doubles, joining Russell Westbrook, who holds the record with 209. It was Jokic’s second triple-double of the season, both of them against New Orleans. Jamal Murray led Denver with 23 points, Aaron Gordon added 15 points and 11 rebounds, Christian Braun scored 15 and Trevon Brazile chipped in 11 as all five Nuggets starters reached double figures and Denver used just nine players.

The Nuggets shot 62 percent in the first quarter while building a 37-18 lead, and Marvin Bagley III’s runner gave them their largest lead at 44-22 early in the second quarter.

Zion Williamson scored a game-high 25 points for the Pelicans (0-4), who pulled within 88-83 in the fourth quarter on a Williamson 3-pointer. Murray answered with a 3-pointer and a driving finger roll to push the lead back to 10, and Braun followed with two late 3-pointers to close it out. Derik Queen had 11 points and 12 rebounds off the bench for New Orleans, and Jeremiah Fears scored 11.

New Orleans shot just 7 of 30 from 3-point range and dropped to 0-4 under first-year coach Jamahl Mosley.
