Brunson Scores 38 as Knicks Erase 19-Point Deficit to Stun Bulls 133-127
Jalen Brunson scored a season-high 38 points and the New York Knicks stormed back from 19 points down in the third quarter to beat the Chicago Bulls 133-127 on Wednesday night.
Chicago looked ready to run away with it. Norman Powell scored 14 of his team-high 30 points in the third quarter and fueled an 18-3 run that stretched the Bulls’ lead to 87-68 with under five minutes left in the period. New York answered with 22 of the next 29 points to trim the deficit to four by the end of the quarter, then overwhelmed Chicago 43-31 in the fourth.
Landry Shamet’s 3-pointer with 6:26 remaining gave the Knicks a 112-109 lead they would not relinquish. Brunson stretched the margin to 11 with a late 3-pointer, and after Jalen Smith’s 3-pointer cut it to 130-127 with 46 seconds left, Chicago had one last chance when Karl-Anthony Towns missed a layup — but Powell’s potential tying 3-pointer missed, Brunson split a pair of free throws, and OG Anunoby added two more to seal it.
Anunoby finished with 23 points and six rebounds, Towns posted 19 points and 13 rebounds, Jordan Clarkson scored 18 points off the bench, Shamet added 14 points and five assists, and Tyler Kolek handed out nine assists. The guard play carried New York on a night when Mikal Bridges was benched for most of the second half and finished with three points in 13 minutes.
Powell led seven Bulls in double figures. Caleb Wilson scored 20 points, Smith added 17 points and 11 rebounds, Matas Buzelis had 17, and Josh Giddey recorded 10 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds.
The defending champion Knicks won their second game in as many nights after an 0-3 start, improving to 2-3. Chicago fell to 1-4.

Grimes Scores 23, Sexton Adds 21 as Lakers Beat Clippers 103-87 Without Dončić
Quentin Grimes scored 23 points and Collin Sexton added 21 off the bench as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the LA Clippers 103-87 on Wednesday night at Intuit Dome, winning without Luka Doncic on the second night of a back-to-back.
Doncic was held out with back tightness after scoring 41 points in Tuesday’s loss to Portland, and Ziaire Williams also sat out. The Lakers answered with defense, forcing 24 Clippers turnovers and scoring 31 points off them, while collecting 15 steals and 17 offensive rebounds to overcome their own 21 turnovers.
The Lakers led 25-22 after a low-scoring first quarter, then broke the game open before halftime. They closed the half on a 27-7 run to lead 56-38 at the break, outscoring the Clippers 31-16 in the second quarter.
The Clippers cut the lead to single digits early in the third, but the Lakers answered with a 10-0 run, and Sexton scored 11 straight points late in the period to push the lead to 19. Los Angeles took an 85-66 lead into the fourth and never let the Clippers back within reach, even through a four-minute scoring drought late.
Austin Reaves finished with 16 points and six rebounds, Matisse Thybulle added 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting, Sandro Mamukelashvili had 13 points and eight rebounds, and Walker Kessler contributed 11 points and nine rebounds for the Lakers, who improved to 4-1.
Keaton Wagler led the Clippers with 21 points. Derrick Jones Jr. scored 15 points and Darius Garland added 14 points and five assists for the Clippers, who fell to 1-3.
