Barnes Scores 28 as Raptors Rout Magic 129-99 in First Game Without Leonard
Scottie Barnes scored a game-high 28 points and the Toronto Raptors rolled past the short-handed Orlando Magic 129-99 on Wednesday night in their first game without Kawhi Leonard.
Barnes, who was held scoreless on 0-for-12 shooting in Sunday’s loss at Minnesota, bounced back emphatically. He was perfect in a 16-point third quarter, making all seven of his shots as Toronto outscored Orlando 34-23 in the period to blow the game open. A 360-degree dunk late in the first half capped a 12-3 run that gave the Raptors a 16-point lead, and his three-point play in the third stretched the margin to 98-72.
RJ Barrett did the early damage, scoring 21 of his 25 points in the first half, and finished with nine rebounds and six assists. Immanuel Quickley added 16 points and seven assists, Ja’Kobe Walter scored 14 starting in Leonard’s place, and Jamal Shead provided 13 points and seven assists off the bench. Toronto attempted 35 3-pointers and made 15, reaching the volume the team targeted all preseason.
Reserve forward Tristan da Silva led Orlando with 20 points. Franz Wagner scored 15 points with five assists, but Toronto tightened its defense on him after halftime, holding him to four second-half points while forcing him into seven turnovers. Desmond Bane added 13 points for the Magic.
Leonard sat out with swelling in his left knee and is expected to miss at least a week. Orlando was depleted as well, playing without leading scorer Paolo Banchero (sprained right ankle) and Jalen Suggs (knee).
Toronto improved to 3-1, while Orlando fell to 1-3. The teams meet again Friday at Scotiabank Arena in an NBA Cup game.

Grimes Scores 23, Sexton Adds 21 as Lakers Beat Clippers 103-87 Without Dončić
Quentin Grimes scored 23 points and Collin Sexton added 21 off the bench as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the LA Clippers 103-87 on Wednesday night at Intuit Dome, winning without Luka Doncic on the second night of a back-to-back.
Doncic was held out with back tightness after scoring 41 points in Tuesday’s loss to Portland, and Ziaire Williams also sat out. The Lakers answered with defense, forcing 24 Clippers turnovers and scoring 31 points off them, while collecting 15 steals and 17 offensive rebounds to overcome their own 21 turnovers.
The Lakers led 25-22 after a low-scoring first quarter, then broke the game open before halftime. They closed the half on a 27-7 run to lead 56-38 at the break, outscoring the Clippers 31-16 in the second quarter.
The Clippers cut the lead to single digits early in the third, but the Lakers answered with a 10-0 run, and Sexton scored 11 straight points late in the period to push the lead to 19. Los Angeles took an 85-66 lead into the fourth and never let the Clippers back within reach, even through a four-minute scoring drought late.
Austin Reaves finished with 16 points and six rebounds, Matisse Thybulle added 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting, Sandro Mamukelashvili had 13 points and eight rebounds, and Walker Kessler contributed 11 points and nine rebounds for the Lakers, who improved to 4-1.
Keaton Wagler led the Clippers with 21 points. Derrick Jones Jr. scored 15 points and Darius Garland added 14 points and five assists for the Clippers, who fell to 1-3.
