Cunningham Scores 30 as Pistons Rally Past Hornets 97-89
Cade Cunningham scored 30 points and the Detroit Pistons used a strong second half to beat the Charlotte Hornets 97-89 on Wednesday night at Little Caesars Arena.
Cunningham shot 10 of 22 from the field, made four 3-pointers and added seven assists, five rebounds and two steals, scoring 10 points in the fourth quarter and icing the win with two late 3-pointers, the second with 30.5 seconds left. Paul Reed added 16 points, Daniss Jenkins scored 14 and Duncan Robinson chipped in 13 for the Pistons (4-1), who bounced back from Tuesday night’s loss at New York. Ausar Thompson finished with seven points, nine rebounds and eight assists.
Detroit trailed 51-44 at halftime, then opened the third quarter with a 16-5 run that included 3-pointers from four different players. The Pistons outscored Charlotte 32-19 in the quarter, forced eight turnovers in the period and took a 76-70 lead into the fourth, and Cunningham’s first two baskets of the final quarter stretched the margin to 80-70.
Brandon Miller scored 31 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Hornets (3-2), his third consecutive 30-point game, but he scored only four points across the final 15 minutes. Dennis Schroder, with 14 points, was the only other Charlotte player in double figures, and the Hornets committed 25 turnovers to Detroit’s 14, halting their two-game winning streak.
Detroit played without All-Star center Jalen Duren, who missed his third straight game with a right hamstring strain, and Isaiah Joe, while Charlotte remained without Coby White, Kon Knueppel and Grant Williams.

Jokic Reaches 200th Career Triple-Double as Nuggets Beat Pelicans 104-91
Nikola Jokic had 21 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists for the 200th regular-season triple-double of his career, and the Denver Nuggets never trailed in a 104-91 victory over the winless New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night at Smoothie King Center.
Jokic became the second player in NBA history to reach 200 triple-doubles, joining Russell Westbrook, who holds the record with 209. It was Jokic’s second triple-double of the season, both of them against New Orleans. Jamal Murray led Denver with 23 points, Aaron Gordon added 15 points and 11 rebounds, Christian Braun scored 15 and Trevon Brazile chipped in 11 as all five Nuggets starters reached double figures and Denver used just nine players.
The Nuggets shot 62 percent in the first quarter while building a 37-18 lead, and Marvin Bagley III’s runner gave them their largest lead at 44-22 early in the second quarter.
Zion Williamson scored a game-high 25 points for the Pelicans (0-4), who pulled within 88-83 in the fourth quarter on a Williamson 3-pointer. Murray answered with a 3-pointer and a driving finger roll to push the lead back to 10, and Braun followed with two late 3-pointers to close it out. Derik Queen had 11 points and 12 rebounds off the bench for New Orleans, and Jeremiah Fears scored 11.
New Orleans shot just 7 of 30 from 3-point range and dropped to 0-4 under first-year coach Jamahl Mosley.
