We Speak R&B
Lucky Daye Gets Loud on New Album ‘ALOUD!’
Lucky Daye is done asking for permission. The Grammy-winning singer released ALOUD! on Friday, October 16 — 15 tracks and 39 minutes on Warner Records, and his first album since leaving RCA for a new label home.
The album’s title is its thesis: a play on “allowed” versus “aloud,” a creative-freedom statement from an artist choosing volume over caution. According to Warner, the project was born from an unexpected sabbatical in Brazil, where Daye rediscovered a looser, more uninhibited version of his sound.
The guest list bridges R&B’s present and its punch. Leon Thomas joins on “Fly U Out,” Pusha T steps into the soulful frame on “Mouf Say,” and Muni Long and The Paradox link up on “Knockin,” with Akeem Ali also appearing. Behind the boards, production is led by D’Mile, Daye’s longtime collaborator and the architect of much of his Grammy-winning work.
Momentum arrived before the album did. Lead single “Nowhere Fast” climbed into the Top 10 on R&B radio ahead of release, setting up a launch week that felt like a coronation as much as a comeback.
Billboard has called Lucky Daye an artist who helped redefine contemporary R&B. On ALOUD!, his fourth studio album, he sounds determined to keep pushing the definition — louder this time.
The Warner move matters, too. ALOUD! is his first album for the label after his RCA era, and it plays like a reset with stakes: a singer Billboard credits with helping redefine contemporary R&B, working again with D’Mile, testing how far a voice this elastic can stretch when nobody is asking him to keep it down.
