Tamar Braxton does not do small vocals, and she does not do cold rooms. An Intimate Evening with Tamar and Friends at the Tabernacle on Saturday, December 5, is built the other way, close up, personal and powered by one of the most gifted voices in R&B.

Tamar Braxton plays the Tabernacle on Saturday, December 5, for An Intimate Evening with Tamar and Friends, a one night engagement that trades arena scale for the kind of closeness her ballads were written for.

Braxton first stepped out from the family group The Braxtons to build a solo catalog anchored by Love and War, the 2013 album whose title track topped the R&B charts and reminded everyone that her voice was always the main event.

Since then she has stacked records, television runs and stage work into one of the most durable second acts in R&B, and her live show remains the core of it, part concert, part conversation, all voice.

The Tabernacle, at 152 Luckie St NW in downtown Atlanta, is the right room for the format. The old church hall keeps an audience close, and a Saturday night crowd coming for the intimate version of Tamar should get exactly that.
