Neuron Activation Is Out Now on Steam, a Dopamine-Filled Digital Fidget Box With a Sinister Twist
Your brain has been waiting for this moment. Neuron Activation, the digital fidget box from solo developer DR Studio and publisher Pretty Soon, is now available on Steam.
Push buttons, flip switches, drag sliders, shoot targets and complete dozens of tiny interactive tasks as quickly and efficiently as possible, while the dopamine keeps rushing in. It’s tactile, satisfying and designed to keep your attention moving from one little challenge to the next. But beneath all that satisfaction lurks something closer to a psychological thriller.
Neuron Activation is available now for $6.99 / £5.69 / €6,79 / ¥ 23.49 with a 15% launch discount for the first two weeks. Consider it a little reward for your hard work. After all, happy employees are productive employees, and productive employees keep coming back for more.
As players progress, assignments from The Handler start to reveal that there’s more going on behind the control panel than simply chasing a high score. Like a worker trapped in a Severance-style corporate nightmare, you’re performing increasingly bizarre tasks for an authority you barely understand.
What begins as a satisfying collection of micro-tasks gradually turns into something more unsettling, as the question of whether you should actually follow orders starts to creep in.
For those who’d rather enjoy the satisfying little tasks without the pressure of high scores or The Handler watching your every move, Neuron Activation also has a Zen Mode, where you can click, flip, and fiddle to your heart’s content.
Neuron Activation is a digital fidget box disguised as a puzzle game, filled with dopamine-fueled micro-challenges where you will push buttons, flip switches, shoot targets and more to boost your score through clever chains. Complete assignments from The Handler and decide how far you’re willing to follow orders from your mysterious corporate overlords.
Key features include 80+ dopamine-powered micro-challenges, multitasking mayhem as the control panel grows more chaotic, increasingly questionable orders from The Handler, and a choice to obey or push back. The main game is designed to be approachable for players of all skill levels, while score chasers can optimize every action for bigger multipliers.
Early press quotes in the release call the score multipliers “weaponized dopamine” (DEBUG Magazine) and praise the sound design, with Future Games Show placing it in its Top 10 Best Games Of Steam Next Fest.
DR Studio is solo developer Danilo, for whom Neuron Activation is a milestone first release. Pretty Soon is an indie games publisher based in Poland, working with solo developers and small teams; its portfolio includes Backpack Hero, Havendock, Small Spaces, Primal Planet and Scale the Depths.
