Atlantic Coast Conference Supervisor of Wrestling Officials Michael Chase has been named the National Wrestling Hall of Fame’s 2027 Meritorious Official honoree, the Hall of Fame announced this week.

The Meritorious Official award recognizes outstanding service as a referee, judge or pairing official. Chase will be honored and officially inducted as part of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame’s 50th Honors Weekend, set for June 4-5, 2027, in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Chase officiated NCAA wrestling from 1998 through 2023, working 19 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, including eight championship finals. He served as the ACC’s head wrestling official for eight years and now serves as the supervisor of officials for both the ACC and Southern Conference.

In addition to his ACC service, Chase officiated for 14 years in the Big Ten Conference and three years in the Big 12 Conference. He also worked the Virginia Duals for 25 years, multiple National Duals Championships and 10 North Carolina high school state tournaments, including 10 state finals.

A former standout wrestler, Chase began his collegiate career at NC State, where he placed fourth at the ACC Championship as a true freshman. He later competed at North Carolina, becoming a two-time ACC Champion at 158 pounds and a three-time NCAA Championships qualifier. Across his collegiate career at NC State and North Carolina, he recorded 101 victories.

Armwood closes the regular season at home in Seffner on Friday night against Jefferson, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. Armwood enters at 8-1 and Jefferson at 4-5, according to MaxPreps. High School On SI’s October 28 Florida rankings listed Armwood at No. 14 in the state and also had the Hawks at 8-1 heading into this game.

Armwood comes in off a 62-0 win over Leto last week. In that game, junior Rondai Dile completed 7 of 8 passes for 185 yards and four touchdowns, according to High School On SI. Jefferson, at 4-5, needs a complete game on the road: sustain drives, limit Armwood’s explosive plays, and win the turnover battle to keep the finale close into the second half.

For Armwood, Friday is about finishing the regular season cleanly at home before the playoffs. For Jefferson, it is a chance to measure itself against one of Florida’s ranked teams. The Hawks will try to set the tempo early, while the Dragons will try to slow the game and make every possession count.
