UCLA player No. 15 celebrates with both arms raised in front of the Rose Bowl crowd during the Bruins' 27-0 shutout of Nevada

No. 7 UCLA’s defense owned Halloween night at the Rose Bowl. The Bruins blanked Nevada 27-0 on Saturday, intercepting the Wolf Pack three times in the first quarter alone and improving to 8-0 for the first time since 2005.

Nevada quarterback Luke Duncan, a former Bruin returning to Pasadena, was picked off on three straight drives to open the game. Scooter Jackson intercepted the game’s first play from scrimmage, Jalen Woods got the second, and DJ Barksdale returned the third 26 yards for a touchdown. Duncan was benched after eight minutes. Mateen Bhaghani’s 26-yard field goal and Barksdale’s pick-six had UCLA up 10-0 before Nevada’s offense ever settled in.

Ty Dieffenbach did the rest. The UCLA quarterback threw for 178 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score, a 4-yard keeper late in the first half. His 12-yard touchdown pass to Wayne Knight in the third quarter made it 24-0, and Bhaghani’s 38-yard field goal in the fourth quarter closed the scoring.

Knight carried 11 times for 53 yards and has now scored in all eight games this season. Nevada managed just 176 total yards and never reached the scoreboard, and lead back Dominic Kelley was held to 6 rushing yards.

UCLA is 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the Big Ten. Nevada falls to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the Mountain West.
