Wilson to Becker on the First Play of Overtime: No. 4 Indiana Survives Minnesota 23-16 After Dueling 60-Yard Field Goals

Indiana kicker Paddy McAteer kicks his game-tying 60-yard field goal against Minnesota at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington

Indiana needed every break it got on Saturday, and the last two were the biggest kicks of the season. The No. 4 Hoosiers beat Minnesota 23-16 in overtime in Bloomington, surviving a game they nearly gave away three different times.

Minnesota kicker Luke Drzewiecki drilled a 60-yard field goal with 24 seconds left to put the Golden Gophers up 16-13, capping a perfect day that also included field goals from 37 and 51 yards. Indiana answered in seconds: backup quarterback Grant Wilson hit Charlie Becker for 33 yards, and Paddy McAteer buried a 60-yard field goal of his own as time expired to force overtime.

One play was all overtime needed. Wilson found Becker for a 25-yard touchdown on the first snap, and Indiana’s defense slammed the door, sacking Drake Lindsey on fourth-and-goal from the 4 to end it.

Wilson, a seventh-year backup, took over at halftime after starter Josh Hoover left with a throwing-arm injury. Wilson finished 9 of 17 for 156 yards and the winning touchdown. Becker caught eight passes for 149 yards. Indiana’s special teams had been a nightmare all day — two shanked punts that handed Minnesota points, a blocked field goal, a miss from 31 yards and a botched snap — before McAteer’s bomb rescued the Hoosiers.

Indiana improves to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the Big Ten. Minnesota falls to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers hurdles an Oklahoma defender during the Gamecocks' 42-25 win in Norman

LaNorris Sellers put on a show in Norman. The South Carolina quarterback threw for 301 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 96 yards and two more scores as the Gamecocks routed Oklahoma 42-25 on Saturday, their third straight win.

Sellers opened the scoring with a 15-yard touchdown run. Oklahoma’s only first-half life was a Kip Lewis 30-yard pick-six that tied it 7-7 early in the second quarter, and South Carolina answered immediately: Christian Clark’s short touchdown run, then Sellers hit DJ Black for an 84-yard touchdown on third-and-12 and Nyck Harbor for an 8-yard score with 16 seconds left in the half. Oklahoma’s offense managed just 71 total yards before halftime.

Sellers’ 11-yard rushing touchdown made it 35-10 in the third quarter, and after Oklahoma finally scored on offense, he answered with a 79-yard touchdown strike to Mazeo Bennett Jr. early in the fourth quarter. Bennett finished with four catches for 107 yards and a touchdown.

Oklahoma scored twice late against the reserves, John Mateer finding Ivan Carreon for touchdowns of 34 and 10 yards, the first two scoring catches of Carreon’s career, but the Sooners’ last drive died on downs at the South Carolina 1-yard line. South Carolina outgained Oklahoma 521 yards to 359 and won despite throwing three interceptions.

South Carolina improves to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in the SEC. Oklahoma falls to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
