Notre Dame players celebrate during the Irish's 35-13 win over Navy at Gillette Stadium.

For a half, Navy had Notre Dame right where it wanted. Then Nolan James Jr. broke loose, and the game flipped for good.

James ran for 107 yards and two touchdowns, including a 52-yard score just before halftime, as Notre Dame scored 28 unanswered points to beat Navy 35-13 on Saturday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. It is the Irish’s ninth straight win over the Midshipmen.

Navy controlled the first half with its ground game, holding the ball for more than 23 minutes, scoring on each of its first three possessions and taking a 13-7 lead on Jackson Gutierrez’s 2-yard touchdown run with 1:52 left in the half. Fifty seconds later, James burst 52 yards to put Notre Dame back in front 14-13, and the Irish never trailed again.

Notre Dame scored on its first three possessions of the second half. Jonaz Walton capped a 78-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown, James added a 23-yard score, and CJ Carr opened the fourth quarter with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Jerome Bettis Jr., the first touchdown of Bettis’s career.

Carr finished 19 of 29 for 210 yards and two touchdowns, including an 11-yard score to Micah Gilbert in the first quarter. Bettis led the Irish with six catches for 78 yards. Notre Dame ran for 204 yards on just 29 carries, 7.0 yards a carry, and outgained Navy 426-245.

Gutierrez carried 28 times for 110 yards and a touchdown for Navy, his fourth straight 100-yard rushing game, and the Midshipmen’s 212 rushing yards were the most Notre Dame has allowed all season. Navy completed just five passes for 33 yards.

Notre Dame improves to 7-1 and hosts No. 1 Miami next Saturday. Navy falls to 2-6. The win was the 50th of head coach Marcus Freeman’s career.

LaNorris Sellers put on a show in Norman. The South Carolina quarterback threw for 301 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 96 yards and two more scores as the Gamecocks routed Oklahoma 42-25 on Saturday, their third straight win.

Oklahoma’s only first-half life was a Kip Lewis 30-yard pick-six that tied it 7-7 early in the second quarter, and South Carolina answered immediately: Christian Clark’s short touchdown run, then Sellers hit DJ Black for an 84-yard touchdown on third-and-12 and Nyck Harbor for an 8-yard score with 16 seconds left in the half. Oklahoma’s offense managed just 71 total yards before halftime.

Sellers’ 11-yard rushing touchdown made it 35-10 in the third quarter, and after Oklahoma finally scored on offense, he answered with a 79-yard touchdown strike to Mazeo Bennett Jr. early in the fourth quarter. Bennett finished with four catches for 107 yards and a touchdown.

Oklahoma scored twice late against the reserves, John Mateer finding Ivan Carreon for touchdowns of 34 and 10 yards, the first two scoring catches of Carreon’s career, but the Sooners’ last drive died on downs at the South Carolina 1-yard line. South Carolina outgained Oklahoma 521 yards to 359 and won despite throwing three interceptions.
