The Pittsburgh Steelers leaned on their ground game and a swarming pass rush on Sunday, beating the Cleveland Browns 27-6 at Acrisure Stadium to take sole possession of first place in the AFC North.

Jaylen Warren celebrated his 28th birthday with 143 rushing yards on 17 carries, tying his career high, and a 1 yard touchdown in the third quarter. He broke a 51 yard run along the way. Pittsburgh (6-2) rushed for 201 yards as a team, 160 of them in the first half, the most by any team in a first half this season. Rico Dowdle opened the scoring with a 9 yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and Pat Freiermuth added a 1 yard score on a tush push play in the second.

Aaron Rodgers had a quiet day, going 13 of 25 for 172 yards with no touchdowns and one interception, a pass that bounced off DK Metcalf’s hands to Denzel Ward. Tight end Darnell Washington was Pittsburgh’s top receiver with 3 catches for 94 yards, and his 58 yard catch to the 1 yard line set up Warren’s touchdown.

Cleveland (5-3) moved the ball between the 20s and got nothing to show for it. Deshaun Watson threw for 324 yards on 27 of 39 passing but took 8 sacks, two of them by T.J. Watt, and lost a strip sack fumble on the Browns’ second series that set up a Steelers touchdown. Watson briefly left in the first quarter after a late hit by Jaquan Brisker, and Shedeur Sanders completed both of his passes for 2 yards in relief. Harold Fannin Jr. caught 10 passes for 154 yards, the third most by a tight end in Browns history, but Cleveland settled for two first half field goals, lost two fumbles in the first half, and turned the ball over on downs in the fourth quarter after reaching first and goal at the Pittsburgh 2.

The win was Pittsburgh’s 23rd straight regular season home victory over Cleveland, tying the NFL record held by Green Bay against Detroit.

The Denver Broncos scored 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter and finished the job with a goal line stand in the final seconds, beating the Kansas City Chiefs 28-24 on Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High to take over first place in the AFC West.

Kansas City (5-2) led most of the day. Patrick Mahomes threw an 11 yard touchdown pass to Rashee Rice in the first quarter, a 73 yard touchdown to running back Emmett Johnson in the second, and a 4 yard score to Noah Gray in the third quarter for a 24-13 lead. Denver (6-2) stayed close behind Wil Lutz field goals of 39 and 45 yards and a 1 yard touchdown pass from Bo Nix to Jaylen Waddle on fourth down late in the first half, and Kansas City took a 17-13 lead into halftime on a 45 yard Harrison Butker field goal in the final minute of the second quarter.

The Broncos went three and out three straight times to open the second half, then drove 80 yards in nine plays. Nix hit Nate Adkins for a 2 yard touchdown on fourth and goal with 8:55 left, and Waddle caught the two point conversion to pull Denver within 24-21.

After Butker missed a field goal try, Nix found rookie Jonah Coleman for 51 yards down to the 5 yard line, and Coleman ran it in on the next play just after the two minute warning to give Denver its first lead since the first quarter. Coleman finished as the Broncos’ top rusher and top receiver, running for 41 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries and catching 4 passes for 63 yards.

Kansas City had one last chance and nearly took it. Mahomes hit Travis Kelce for 32 yards and Kenneth Walker carried the Chiefs down to the 1 yard line. But Mahomes threw incomplete on second down, Walker was stopped for no gain on third down, a false start pushed Kansas City back, and Malcolm Roach sacked Mahomes on fourth down as time expired. Mahomes finished 30 of 41 for 321 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. Johnson caught 5 passes for 128 yards for the Chiefs, and Walker ran for 69 yards on 21 carries. Nix went 20 of 32 for 222 yards and two touchdowns for the Broncos, and neither team committed a turnover all afternoon.
