Cult Classic Icy Tower Returns With a Full Remake on November 10

Published

on

One of the most beloved freeware games of the 2000s is climbing back. The original developers of Icy Tower have announced a complete remake of the vertical climbing game, launching on PC and Mac via Steam on November 10, 2026.

The original Icy Tower became a quiet phenomenon in the early days of downloadable PC games, spreading from computer to computer and school lab to school lab until it had reached 40 million players. Its formula was simple to learn and hard to put down: a lone climber leaps from floor to floor up an endless tower that scrolls faster and faster, with longer leaps and wall-to-wall combo jumps earning bigger scores, and one missed landing ending the run. That one-more-try loop made it one of the defining shareware-era time killers, years before mobile endless games turned the same hook into an industry.

The remake rebuilds the game from the ground up under the same name, with the team behind the original returning to make it. Rather than a simple re-release of the old code, the new Icy Tower is a complete remake for modern systems, arriving through Steam on both PC and Mac.

The remake joins a wave of affectionate returns for the games that defined PC shareware culture, as the players who grew up on them become the audience, and in many cases the developers, of today’s indie scene. For longtime fans, November 10 is a date with a very tall tower. For everyone else, it is a chance to find out why 40 million players could not stop climbing.

One Piece: Grand Gourmet Serves Up a Restaurant Adventure With 400 Characters

The Straw Hat Crew is getting into the restaurant business. One Piece: Grand Gourmet, a restaurant-management simulation from developer Kairosoft and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment, has launched worldwide for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC via Steam, iOS and Android.

Players take charge of Baratie Number Two, the Straw Hat Crew’s floating eatery, with Sanji, the crew’s famously devoted cook, installed as head chef. In classic Kairosoft fashion, the game blends approachable management systems with deep customization: more than 400 One Piece characters appear as staff and customers, and over 200 decoration items let players design a restaurant that matches their own taste, from the layout of the dining room to the menu it serves.

The simultaneous worldwide launch is unusual for a licensed anime title, which often staggers Japanese and Western releases by weeks or months. Bandai Namco instead released Grand Gourmet globally on a single day across five platforms, bringing the game to console, PC and mobile audiences at once. On PC, the game is priced at €19.99 on Bandai Namco’s European store, with US pricing reported at $19.99.

Kairosoft has spent decades perfecting the cozy management sim, building a catalogue of pixel-art business games covering everything from game studios to hot springs resorts, and Grand Gourmet applies that formula to one of the biggest entertainment franchises in the world. For One Piece fans, the appeal is in the details: hundreds of familiar faces walking through the door of a restaurant you built, with Sanji running the kitchen the way only Sanji would.

One Piece: Grand Gourmet is available now on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, the App Store and Google Play.
