Welcome to HorrorVale, where your next-door neighbors are zombies, reanimated monsters deliver the mail, and ghosts hide out in your bathroom. Horror RPG HorrorVale: Deadluxe Edition launches today, October 31, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, publisher Electric Airship and developer BatWorks Software announced. The console edition is priced at $17.99.

HorrorVale first launched for PC via Steam on October 1, 2024. The Deadluxe Edition brings the adventure to home consoles with hand-made art revised exclusively for consoles, brand-new battles, and quality-of-life enhancements not found in the original release. And as the game’s pitch points out, there is no need to worry about anybody you kill along the way — everyone is already dead.

The story spans four acts as players uncover the mysteries behind the unusual monsters taking over the valley and dive into the Underworld’s deep mythos. The main quest runs about 25 hours, with some 60 hours of content to find for players who want to complete everything, across spooky streets, creepy woods, and scary bogs, all carried by a massive 170-track original soundtrack.

Combat is a modern take on turn-based battles with a spooky spin, against more than 500 mechanically unique enemies, mixed with brain-munching puzzles. Players can recruit over 30 unique party members, each with their own abilities and quirks, and get to know them through 60 available sidequests. Shared XP across all characters means players can experiment freely without fear of losing progress, and the undead city is filled with countless unique and humorous NPCs to meet.

The game began in 2016 as a deal between two best friends — an artist who wanted to develop an RPG, and a musician who would provide the soundtrack. Eight years and thousands of hours later, with many more hands recruited along the way, HorrorVale: Deadluxe Edition is complete and out now on consoles, just in time for Halloween.

WORLD OF HORROR has just gotten bigger. Developer panstasz and publisher Ysbryd Games have released AS BELOW, SO ABOVE, the largest update in the 1-bit horror RPG’s history, on PC via Steam, GOG and itch.io. The free update expands the game by more than 20 percent, adding new mysteries, characters, enemies and systems, with console versions planned to follow in 2027.

The headline addition is Scenario Mode, which tells prequel stories set before the events of the main game. Its first stories are FOREST OF FEAR and TAPES OF TRAGEDY, the latter following the character MAKOTO. The update also introduces THE WAR FOR SHIOKAWA, a struggle between four cults vying for control of the game’s doomed seaside town, alongside two new Old Gods, including IKT-YOSIS, THE FIRST NIGHTMARE.

Three new playable characters join the roster, including KIRIKO, a tarotist, and SATOSHI, a hiker, each bringing their own strengths to the fight against the encroaching madness. Beyond that, the update adds a wave of new events, enemies, mysteries, items, spells, curses and injuries, plus quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes and expanded Steam Workshop tools for modders.

For newcomers, WORLD OF HORROR is a roguelite RPG drawn entirely in stark 1-bit pixel art, inspired by the works of Junji Ito and H.P. Lovecraft. Players investigate randomized mysteries in the town of Shiokawa, gathering clues, performing dark rituals and battling cosmic horrors in turn-based combat while trying to stop the Old Gods from reawakening. Most mysteries offer multiple endings for those who survive long enough to see them.

WORLD OF HORROR is available now on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, priced at $19.99, with interface and subtitle support for English, German, French, Japanese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean and Polish. The AS BELOW, SO ABOVE update is live now on PC, with its console release coming in 2027.
