Marvel’s Wolverine Tops September US Sales as NBA 2K27 Becomes 2026’s Best-Selling Game

Published

Marvel’s Wolverine was the best-selling game in the United States in September, according to Circana’s monthly sales report, but the bigger story sits one spot below it. NBA 2K27 finished second for the month, and that was enough to overtake Resident Evil Requiem as the best-selling game of 2026 so far in the US.

Wolverine, a $70 PlayStation 5 exclusive that launched September 15, recorded the highest monthly revenue for a Sony-published title since Helldivers 2. Eight of September’s ten best-selling games were new releases. EA Sports FC 27 took third, followed by Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, The Blood of Dawnwalker, WARDOGS, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Halloween: The Game and Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve. Madden NFL 27 slipped from second in August to tenth in September, rounding out a chart dominated by sports titles at the top of the year-to-date rankings.

Hardware spending rose 12 percent year over year to $362 million, driven by the PlayStation 5, which led the market in both unit and dollar sales. PS5 dollar sales jumped 43 percent year over year and unit sales rose 22 percent, the console’s strongest hardware performance since May 2025. The rest of the hardware field moved the other way: Nintendo Switch 2 unit sales fell 14 percent, while Xbox Series X|S unit sales dropped 27 percent to a record September low.

Total content spending dipped 2 percent to $4.2 billion, dragged down by a 14 percent decline in mobile game spending. Console game spending rose 8 percent and PC game spending surged 27 percent. The calendar ahead is crowded, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 arriving in October and Grand Theft Auto VI scheduled for November, setting up a heavyweight finish to the year.

Skyborne Survival Adventure ATMOSFAR Enters Steam Early Access on October 29

ATMOSFAR, the skyborne survival adventure from publisher Shueisha Games and Swedish developer Apog Labs, enters Steam Early Access on October 29, the publisher has confirmed, arriving on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game heads into launch with serious momentum behind it, having crossed 300,000 wishlists on Steam ahead of release.

Set across the skies of the alien planet Tycos, ATMOSFAR puts players in command of a fleet of Wasp vessels and a Cloud Cruiser, a mobile airbase that serves as home and headquarters. Play combines aerial exploration with resource management and ground-based expeditions, as players leave the safety of their fleet to explore the surface, gather what they need and bring it back to the skies. The whole adventure supports online co-op for two to four players, so crews can divide the flying, building and scavenging between them.

ATMOSFAR is the latest game from Apog Labs, the Malmö-based studio whose previous title was the airport management simulator Airport CEO, a game about keeping complex systems running smoothly under pressure. That background shows in ATMOSFAR’s structure, which treats the player’s fleet as a living operation to be managed, supplied and expanded rather than a simple vehicle.

Shueisha Games, the Tokyo-based publisher founded in 2022 by the company behind some of Japan’s biggest manga properties, continues to build its catalogue of distinctive independent titles with ATMOSFAR’s launch. The publisher has not yet announced a full release date, a final price or how long the Early Access period is expected to run, saying those details will come as development progresses. Early Access players can jump in from October 29.
