Southwest DeKalb at Banneker: Panthers Go on the Road for a Friday Night Test

Southwest DeKalb travels to Banneker on Friday night, a DeKalb-to-Fulton trip that gives the Panthers a road test to close out the week.

Road games in late October are about composure. The Panthers will face a home team, a home crowd, and a Banneker side that knows Tucker beat it 41-2 in Tucker’s most recent reported result, a score High School On SI noted in its October 26 rankings. Banneker has had a hard stretch, and that makes Friday a response game for the home team. Pride is a real factor at this point in a season, and a home team playing for pride can be dangerous.

Southwest DeKalb cannot walk in expecting Banneker to hand anything over. The Panthers need to start cleanly, tackle in space, and avoid the turnovers that give a struggling home team belief. If Southwest DeKalb controls the early part of the game, its path gets much clearer.

Banneker’s path is effort and emotion early: force a stop, find a score, and make the visitors play a full game. Southwest DeKalb at Banneker kicks off Friday, October 30 at 7:30 p.m.

Riverdale at Mt. Zion: Raiders Visit the Bulldogs in a Clayton County Region Game

Riverdale travels to Mt. Zion on Friday night in Jonesboro, closing the Clayton County slate with a region game between two familiar opponents.

The Raiders go on the road knowing county games are rarely decided by reputation. Riverdale’s schedule shows a 51-8 loss to North Clayton earlier in October, the kind of result that tests a team’s response over the rest of a season. Friday is another chance to answer, and it has to start with the basics: block, tackle, and protect the football in a hostile building.

Mt. Zion, at home, controls the setting. The Bulldogs get the crowd, the routine, and the chance to make Riverdale play from behind. A home team in a region game wants exactly that script: score first, make the visitor chase, and let the defense play aggressive with a lead.

If Riverdale can survive the first quarter and turn this into a possession game, the Raiders give themselves a real chance on the road. If Mt. Zion starts fast, the home side will be hard to pull back. Riverdale at Mt. Zion kicks off Friday, October 30 at 7:30 p.m.
