Coral Gables at Doral Academy: Cavaliers and Firebirds Close Season in Doral

Coral Gables visits Doral Academy on Friday night to close the regular season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., according to the MaxPreps Florida schedule page for Friday, Oct. 30.

MaxPreps lists Coral Gables at 3-5 and Doral Academy at 3-6 on that schedule page. Doral Academy is the home team in this matchup, and Coral Gables is the visiting team.

Both teams enter the finale with losing records, which makes the last game matter in a straightforward way. The winner adds a fourth win to its season. For Doral Academy, that chance comes at home. For Coral Gables, it comes on the road in Doral.

No venue beyond the home school, district stake or player statistics were stated for this matchup in the schedule source checked, so none are included here. What is verified is the date, the 7 p.m. start, the home and away teams and the records as published by MaxPreps for Oct. 30.

Finales like this one are often about pride and about sending a senior class out with a win. Neither team needs a complicated storyline on Friday night. Coral Gables and Doral Academy each get one more game on the published schedule, and only one of them can close the regular season with a victory.

Riverdale at Mt. Zion: Raiders Visit the Bulldogs in a Clayton County Region Game

Riverdale travels to Mt. Zion on Friday night in Jonesboro, closing the Clayton County slate with a region game between two familiar opponents.

The Raiders go on the road knowing county games are rarely decided by reputation. Riverdale’s schedule shows a 51-8 loss to North Clayton earlier in October, the kind of result that tests a team’s response over the rest of a season. Friday is another chance to answer, and it has to start with the basics: block, tackle, and protect the football in a hostile building.

Mt. Zion, at home, controls the setting. The Bulldogs get the crowd, the routine, and the chance to make Riverdale play from behind. A home team in a region game wants exactly that script: score first, make the visitor chase, and let the defense play aggressive with a lead.

If Riverdale can survive the first quarter and turn this into a possession game, the Raiders give themselves a real chance on the road. If Mt. Zion starts fast, the home side will be hard to pull back. Riverdale at Mt. Zion kicks off Friday, October 30 at 7:30 p.m.
