Mimyr Games is giving players a second look at its gothic roguelite. The Vow: Vampire’s Curse pairs village building by day with tactical card combat by night, and its refreshed demo is live on Steam now with a reworked opening and new daytime play.

Indie developer Mimyr Games has announced The Vow: Vampire’s Curse, a dark gothic roguelite that blends tactical, grid-based combat with strategic card-based gameplay, village management and a story of love, death and resurrection. Alongside the announcement, an extensively refreshed demo is available now on Steam, featuring a reworked introduction, new daytime card-based gameplay, an improved tutorial, and further enhancements to combat and progression.

Players take on the role of Sir Richard, a righteous knight whose wedding to his beloved Eleanor is brutally interrupted by the vampire lord Arnaud. When Richard is killed trying to protect her, he is mysteriously brought back to life, changed in ways he does not yet understand. Driven by his determination to reach Arnaud’s castle and rescue Eleanor, Sir Richard sets out on a dangerous journey. Yet the path ahead is far from straightforward, and death is only the beginning.

Prepare by day. Survive by night. Sir Richard’s journey unfolds across a repeating seven-day cycle, with each day bringing new opportunities to prepare for the dangers ahead. During daylight, players develop and upgrade villages, unlock new effects, place defensive obstacles and assign villagers and allies to help withstand the coming attacks.

When night falls, the game shifts into tactical, card-driven combat as waves of vampires and their thralls descend on the village. Positioning is everything. Push enemies into hazards, pull them towards traps, block their paths with fences or crash them into obstacles and each other. Summoned objects and allies add further options.

Players build their deck by selecting three themed card sets, shaping their approach around defensive tactics, aggression, movement or battlefield control. Playing cards of the same colour consecutively can also trigger additional combo benefits.

The updated demo has been reworked to offer a smoother introduction, bringing more of the game’s story and strategic systems into the opening experience. Players can experience the first five days of Sir Richard’s journey, travelling between villages where each must be prepared and defended against nightly attacks. During the day, players choose which abilities to activate across four buildings in each village, before facing waves of enemies after nightfall. The demo also features two major boss encounters, Godfrey and Arnaud.

The refreshed demo also introduces a reworked introduction with a new animated intro, card-based daytime gameplay, an improved tutorial, a reworked card upgrade system with new cards, and enhanced boss encounters with further gameplay improvements and additional animations.

Each run is part of a larger journey. Death sends Sir Richard back to the church, but story progress, knowledge and unlocked cards carry over. Along the way, artefacts can provide powerful advantages, while dangerous omens introduce new curses and challenges.

The refreshed demo for The Vow: Vampire’s Curse is available now on Steam. Players can try the updated experience, wishlist the game and join the Discord community to follow its development.
